Young Woman Recognition Night

Taylor has completed her personal progress program and earned her Young Woman Medallion.  We held her Recognition night the day after Dallin's eagle court of honor.  With all the family in town it just made sense.  I thought it was very symbolic to have both programs in the same weekend.  We always talk about how earning the YW medallion is equivalent to earning the rank of Eagle in the scouting program.  This was our opportunity to treat them equally.

Taylor has always been very independent and self-motivated.  I anticipated doing the program again with her, but there was no way I could keep up with her pace.  She diligently worked on her projects and grew her testimony in the process.  She is excited to work toward her honor bee and help other girls complete their goals.

Her program was great.  Susan Taylor spoke about what a strong and amazing young woman she is becoming.  Amazingly, Susan and Taylor both chose orange as their signature color for the day and made a perfect picture together!  My mom, Ed's mom, and I read letters we wrote to Taylor about how much we love her.  Cami and Taylor played a flute/piano duet (it was Cami's first public performance on the flute).  I know she felt loved and it was wonderful to have so many of her friends there to support her.

We are so proud of you Taylor and love you more than you could know!

Eagle Court of Honor

We had a great celebration of Dallin's advancement to Eagle Scout.  He and Ian both finished within the last year and we wanted them to be honored together before Ian left for school.  Liz and I worked together to plan the program.  She has 3 other sons who are Eagle Scouts so it was great to have her help.

Walt was the keynote speaker, Ed presented Dallin with his award, and Ian's brother Eric was able to fly out to present Ian with his.  Other friends also participated in the program and Mike Fitzpatrick (our congressman) sent the boys a letter of congratulations and flags that have flown at the Captiol.

Dallin is our only son and our only experience in scouting.  We are so proud of him for working hard to complete all the requirements to reach this rank.  I am the advancement committee chairman for our troop and I sit in on all the reviews.  When we meet with Eagles I always remind them that this is the first of many accomplishments that have to be reached in a defined period of time that will be a blessing for the rest of their life.  Some windows of opportunity close and cannot be re-opened.  Dallin is grateful that he was able to complete this goal and knows he will be working with scouts for the rest of his life through the Young Mens program.

New Quilt

Cami got her 10-year-old quilt from Gramma Seguine.  It has lots of Hawaiian prints and is quilted in a flip-flop pattern.  She has been waiting for this quilt to pick a new wall color for her room.  She wants to change things up a bit for her 11th birthday.  Thanks to Gramma for this very special quilt!
