Taylor has been hard at work getting ready for Lacrosse tryouts. She has been working out (as a group) with a trainer twice a week for 2 months, going to open gym several times a week, and playing in a Thursday night indoor league. She has gotten to know the coaches and many of the players from previous years. Hopefully she will be able to make the JV team and continue to grow as a player. Here are a few pictures from her last indoor game.
Our friend Beth organized a big group date where we learned how to swing dance. There were about a dozen couples and we had a great time. I was impressed at how well everyone did and it was a fun change of pace. We invited everyone to our house for dessert afterwards as a reward to all the husbands. This is kind of a weird picture, but it's the only one I have.
Taylor has finished a milestone - 9th grade assessment. Dreaded by all, this project consumes many weekends and stresses many friendships...
Dallin turned 17! I can't believe he is that old. He is such a wonderful young man and has such a great group of friends. This group is like a big family and they spend a lot of time at our house in the basement. We love having them around and they took good care of Dallin for his birthday. They all went out to eat and brought him many superhero gifts to feed his obsession.
I spent some time making CDs for our Primary kids with the music for this year. It seems like we know most of the songs for the program already, so I decided to ask the teachers which primary song has brought them comfort through the years. You know... the song you sing in your head when you need to push away fear or bad thoughts. It was fun to be able to include those for the kids and we will be talking about these songs and learning them throughout the year. We also plan on learning another song in sign language and in Spanish. The kids love a challenge and it's actually hard to keep up with how fast they learn!
My dryer hasn't been working well lately, so I decided I would fix it. I started taking it apart and eventually found a huge clump of lint blocking the duct and was also able to clean off the dampness sensors. Now my dryer is back to drying my clothes completely and turning off when they are done. Probably not a big deal to most people, but I was proud.
We finally got some snow, but it didn't even stick to the roads or sidewalks. It was beautiful for a few hours and then melted away without any shoveling. After last year and all the record breaking snow I really needed this easy winter. It has been wonderful to have sunshine and to be able to go on walks and enjoy being outside.
We obviously love football in our family, so we decided to have some friends over to watch the Super Bowl. We always have lots of comfort food (really terrible for you) and lots of fun watching the game and the commercials. The kids run around and play and eat way too much sugar and join in on the cheering when things get exciting.
