Temple Day

Most of you know that Ed has started working in the Washington D.C. Temple twice a month. We will be getting a temple in Philadelphia in a few years and will need people who are trained and ready to work to keep it running. It is sometimes a struggle to get there two Thursdays a month, but the temple always brings peace and goodness to our family. By working on Thursday (instead of Saturday when they have plenty of workers) Ed has been able to work throughout the temple and really get to know the wonderful people working there. I try to go with him about every third time.

The Thursday of Spring Break was his assigned temple day and I decided to go with him. The kids were tired from our trip to New York and I knew they would sleep half the day anyway:) We must have really needed to be there, because things kept going wrong. Right away we ran into traffic, then an accident, and after driving through the accident zone we got a flat tire. Changing a tire in a white shirt is not easy, but Ed did it quickly and without staining his shirt!

We finally made it to the temple about 4 1/2 hours after leaving and I dropped Ed off and went to find someone to fix our tire. The tire was fixed about an hour later and I was able to spend some time in the temple before leaving for home. It was a long 15 hour day, but well worth every minute. The feeling that comes from going to the House of the Lord brings peace and balance that lasts long after returning home. I enjoyed some time outside taking pictures while waiting for Ed to come out. What a beautiful place.

Spring Break

We only get a few days for Spring Break. We decided to spend the first day taking a trip to NYC. The kids always enjoy going to our favorite GF restaurant and walking around Times Square. We found discount tickets to the show How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying starring Daniel Radcliffe and John Larroquette and decided to make it our big Spring Break Event.

Look who drove us half way to New York! Ed is the only one in our family brave enough to actually drive in the city, but Dallin is getting plenty of time behind the wheel.


We jumped on the subway and headed straight down to our favorite restaurant and had yummy bread sticks. We even got some huge GF cupcakes to go and enjoyed them in Times Square a little later.




Our show was just off the main area and we had a great time. I should have done a little more research because there are some inappropriate parts. I would have liked to taken the kids out for one of the songs, but the talent was amazing. I was really impressed with Daniel Radcliffe. I have always thought of him as kind of awkward, but he was excellent in the show. John Larroquette was very funny and had great timing. At the end of the show they came out to auction off Daniel's bow tie for charity. The bidding and bantering went on for 20 minutes and was a fun bonus (not to mention all the girls in the audience cheered when he started speaking with his British accent!)





Overall we had a great time and made it home in time for Ed and I to sleep a few hours before getting up to drive to the temple in Washington D.C. Happy Spring Break!

Weird Conversation of The Day

Me: So what did you do in Spanish class today Taylor?
Taylor: Nothing... it's Passover.
Me: Uh...
Taylor: You know Mom, PASSOVER?!
Me: Yes, I am familiar with Passover. What does it have to do with Spanish.
Taylor: Oh, Senorita ______ is Jewish and has to go to her Grandma's for the feast.
Me: (Puzzled Stare because I still don't quite understand what Passover feast has to do with Spanish lesson plans during the day).
Taylor: She and all the other Jewish kids will just be too tired to do anything tomorrow so we are celebrating Passover by just making flash cards and stuff.
Me: Silly me. I should have know that there would be a great Passover celebration in a public school Spanish class. Sorry for even asking.

Jersey Shore?

We went shopping and I found Taylor and Jenna trying on the UGLIEST dresses within two hours of the Jersey Shore. They were easy to find... I just had to follow the hysterical laughter.

Jenna Comes to Visit

Jenna came to visit for the weekend. She has spring break next week and is spending a few days with us. Taylor and Jenna always come up with creative ways to pass the time. They decided to create a mixture of egg whites and sugar to give Taylor's hair a little curl. They are so funny together.

Taylor is learning that a really cool pair of purple shoes can make you smile for days:)

Scenes of Spring

It's looking beautiful around here lately!

The picture above is all that's left of last year's attempt to grow a climbing rose. The rabbits and dogs would not leave them alone. This year I have tried to protect them to give them a good start. This particular climbing rose is an heirloom type from the late 1880's. It is thornless and blooms continually all summer. I want little pink roses covering this arbor!

Daddy-Daughter Date

Ed took the girls to see the movie Soul Surfer. They always love having time with him and they LOVED the movie. The theater was sold out and there were dads and daughters everywhere. They all agreed that this is a must see movie.

I went to see Jane Eyre with Beth and Liz and really enjoyed my evening too:)

Tough Week

Ed's business partner was killed in a small plane crash last week. It's terrible and sad and so many other things. There is much to do to sort everything out for the company and his poor family is going through their worst nightmare. Ed already had one migraine and I know this will be a very difficult week for him. The girls and I wrote him some words of encouragement and hid them in his bag before he left. Life is precious and fragile and each day must be lived to the fullest.

Ed is really proud of what they have accomplished thus far with their company. He feels a huge responsibility to fulfill Tommy's dream of success. Once again, I am proud of how my husband responds during difficult situations and know he will make inspired decisions to get through this tough time.

Girl Night

We had our usual girl time while the boys went to Priesthood session on Saturday. We made our baked apples and took our traditional picture on the couch. I love having these little traditions with my girls.
